Yomidas School
The Yomiuri Shimbun is pleased to introduce Yomidas for School, an essential resource for schools with an interest in Japanese language or culture. Combining articles in Japanese from The Yomiuri Shimbun and in English from The Japan News (formerly The Daily Yomiuri), this newspaper archive is sure to be a hit with Japanese language schools, international schools, or any school up through senior high which offers courses in Japanese language and culture.
Yomidas for School for students of Japan
Students can quickly retrieve articles of interest from the fully indexed archive using keyword or full text searching. Those who are unsure of the precise kanji character can enter hiragana and katakana instead (choosing "Keyword Search" instead of "Full-Text Search"). Articles appear in a screen-friendly text view, while Japanese articles from December 2008 onwards include a clipping image which shows the article as it originally appeared in print, complete with photos, illustrations and graphics. To help students of Japanese, most English articles from July 2011 onwards contain a link to the original Japanese article.
There’s more help for students in the form of a Japanese dictionary, English/Japanese and Japanese/English lexicons, and the Imidas guide to current usage. The Saved Articles and Saved Search functions allow teachers and students to share articles of interest and useful searching techniques among themselves. Mini Definitions, continuously updated by Yomiuri Shimbun editorial staff, are available by clicking on highlighted terms in the text.
